A couple of weeks ago, I was listening to 95FM while driving on the road – the Deejay was commenting on the topic of 'Why is better to be a woman then a man'. One of the 'benefits' she pointed out was that Woman can have many pairs of shoes, while man can survive with just three pairs...

When I heard that, I was like: "HELLO??? I beg to differ!"

Just three pairs? What? One black for work, one brown for causal and one pair for sports? Oh my goodness.... damn boring leh!

I for one definitely cannot live with just three pairs... so that's why I have these! (yes yes, there IS one 'boring' black shoe... but just one).

A Malaysian lawmaker told parliament that there would be fewer marital problems and a lower divorce rate if Muslim women were taught to accept polygamy, news reports said Friday.

Ibrahim Ali, an independent parliamentarian, proposed moves to address the issue in response to complaints that women were always blamed for marital issues.

"Such problems happen because women cannot accept polygamy. From a preventive point of view, what about doing a big campaign so that women can accept polygamy?" Ibrahim was quoted saying in the Star daily.

The ethnic Malay Muslim lawmaker said women who are pregnant or who have "problems" when they hit their fifties do not understand that men still want to "have fun".

Fuziah Salleh, an opposition lawmaker, had earlier questioned the qualifications of Islamic sharia court counselors as she had received complaints from women that they were forced to take the blame for most marital problems.

"They are not counseled but given 'advice'. And every time, they are told that the woman is to be blamed. If it is a family problem, they must be patient. If they are beaten up, they must also be patient," she said.

Muslim men in Malaysia are allowed up to four wives. Activists and women's groups say polygamy is cruel and has deviated from its original purpose in Islam, which was to protect widows and orphans.

Islam is the official religion of Malaysia, where more than 60 percent of its 27 million people are Muslim Malays. Polygamy is illegal for non-Muslims.

Last Saturday we had the privilege of being invited to attend the Anteprima Autumn/Winter Collection fashion show.

Our FIRST fashion show!

Excited? Oh, you bet! Aiyah... you know, even though we are quite good with our dress sense (ahem!), we have never had the chance to attend a real fashion show – quite 'mountain tortoise' (ignorant) type...

Got a MAJOR decision to make – what to wear... what to wear.... what to wear?

Right, 8 p.m., outside Tent@Orchard (at the main entrance to Ngee Ann City), we met with our friends and off we went... the moment we stepped into the huge air-conditioned tent....

Oh man! So packed! So many people... so many 'well-moleculed' models... so many... Hey! Isn't that Allan Wu? At the reception area there were free flow of drinks, liquor, snacks... and then our friend, who is a Vice President of a local bank, asked us to join her in the VIP lounge... and hey, better snacks, and what's this? CAVIAR! Woah..... this mountain tortoise finally gets to have his first taste of caviar (where's the champagne? Hehe).

VIP lounge... the lady who is talking to the 'angmoh' is Andrea Forsenka, a local celebrity.

Okay, the show is about to get started... as we took our seats, more celebrities appeared; we saw Phyllis Quek, Cynthia Teo, Jaslyn Tay, Andrea De Cruz, Denise Keller etc. The moment they appear, there will be photographers swarming around them with camera flashings... no a moment of peace...

The runway.

On with the show... and you know what? I did not like any of pieces! What a let down... first and foremost, it was the autumn/winter collection, and in terms of colours used, they were the typical grey, black, white... the design, nothing really special to shout about, and another thing, some of the models are pretty 'ugly'... not that I am trying to be critical, but they are really a far cry from even those contestants in 'America's next top model', and a particular Asian model (from mainland China, perhaps?) has a strange walk – her body leaned very far back as she kept her head straight and upright (not sure can you imagine what I am trying to describe)... it was like she will topple at any given moment.

In half an hour's time the show was over. Everybody just stood up, grabbed their goody bags and headed for the exit. So that's it then, end of our first fashion show...

So, what do I think about the entire night? Besides being an eye opener for us, just one word – Vanity.

During the show, I was just wondering – all the glamor, dresses, makeup, the mingling, camera flashes, laughters, endless flow of liquors... but what went on in the heart of those who were there? If all these are stripped away, what will the person be left with? If a heart is empty, none of these can satisfy, for by the end of the night, after all the partying and booze, and when the person is all alone, the only thing that remains is the emptiness.

During last Sunday's sermon, the speaker, Dr. Matt Rawlins, talked about the 'Value of God'.

In his sermon he mentioned that many people are insecure, constantly needing approval from others; and in order to gain acceptance, they went after materialistic stuff - money, branded goods, fast cars, big O' houses etc... hoping to impress others, and even to impress God so that He will accept and love them...

WRONG.

First and foremost, God has already loved us, even before we were born... you cannot gain His love, because it is already here for you. All you need to do is to receive it.

Second, we can NEVER NEVER NEVER impress Him enough with our so-called wealth. God owns EVERYTHING - seen and unseen, for He alone created all these - that includes whatever you have 'gained'. As I have mentioned, God owns everything, which incidentally includes the entire universe (and it fits nicely in His palm, by the way)... oh, did I mention that He is so rich that He actually left diamonds floating in it?

"Diamonds?"

Yup! Diamonds.

"Big bling bling?"

Oh definitely!

"How big?"

Well, recently a group of astronomer from Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics discovered a chunk of crystallized carbon (i.e. diamond), technically known as BPM 37093, 50 lightyears from the Earth in the constellation Centaurus (A lightyear is the distance light travels in a year, or about 6 trillion miles.) It is 2,500 miles across and weighs 5 million trillion trillion pounds, which translates to approximately 10 billion trillion trillion carats, or a one followed by 34 zeros.

The diamond star completely outclasses the largest diamond on Earth, the 530-carat Star of Africa which resides in the Crown Jewels of England. The Star of Africa was cut from the largest diamond ever found on Earth, a 3,100-carat gem. (Full report here)

3,100 carat vs 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 carat... Now your Armani suit and Ferrari doesn't look so impressive anymore eh?

Bur seriously, God is not a 'showoff' (and He doesn't need to... He IS God, remember?). This huge 'mother-of-all-diamonds' maybe the smallest in His stock. The thing is , I believe the reason God revealed this diamond to us is to show us how distorted our value system is, and to let us know the vast riches of His glory, but most importantly, I believe God is saying to us: "Guys, look here... you may be totally overwhelmed by the size of that 'rock' I have in my backyard, but let me tell you what I treasure most - You."

Yes. You.

Your parents, your family and friends may say all sorts of things against you, take advantage of you, abuse and reject you, and you may even hate youself, but God thinks differently about you...

He loves you. Period. Nothing of what you did nor what's in the future will ever change that fact.

Chanced upon this video in another blog...

God created men and everything – the stars the living things and the nature for us to enjoy, and He rejoices over us with singing and dancing too! But when sin came into this world, and despite the constant calling of God, men were seduced by the things it offers – lust, money/power, drunknesses, vanity, and with all these came pain and depressions. With the soul so tormented, men tried to find ways to relieve the pain – self mutilations, and eventually, the thought of suicide came. When men realise all these are futile, he tried to go back to the one true God, but was stopped by all these bondages and could not find his way back. Seeing His beloved trapped, God came and sacrificed Himself to fend off the attacks of sins and eventually to overcome it, so that men can have the freedom from sin and death.
